Photo-essay of my grandmother, Ollie Hairston, who was at the time of shooting this piece in 2009, in the late stages of Alzheimer’s Disease. When my mother and I visited her at an assisted living facility outside Atlanta, GA, where my aunt (who lived nearby) was watching Grandma on a consistent basis, we hadn’t seen or heard from her since her condition took a dramatic turn for the worse.
